My Story

Hello, my name is Amy Leigh Mussell. I am 25 years old and was born and raised in the beautiful state of Georgia. I am a missionary with Macedonia World Baptist Mission, Inc. and a member of Liberty Baptist Tabernacle in Stockbridge, Georgia.

  • I was privileged to be raised in a Christian home. At the age of four, I came to understand that I was a sinner and needed a Savior. One night, after talking with my parents, I asked God to save me and forgive me of my sins. I am so thankful that He answered my prayer! I always say that it doesn't matter if you are 4 or 94... God loves you and wants to save you!

  • When I was 13 years old, Bro. Jim Joines (a missionary to Mexico) was preaching at our church. The entire time he was speaking, I could feel the Holy Spirit working on my heart. When the invitation came, I went down to the altar to pray. As I knelt down, I realized what God was trying to tell me- He wanted me to be a missionary to Mexico. In that moment, I surrendered to do whatever God wanted of me. A couple of months later, the Lord again used the preaching of Bro. Joines to show me that I was supposed to start an orphanage in Mexico. After much prayer and consideration, I feel like God is leading me to start the children's home in the city of Saltillo. Saltillo is located in the Northern State of Coahuila.

  • I have been to Mexico many times over the last seven years and have complete peace that it is exactly where God wants me! It is my desire to tell the Mexican people how much God loves them and wants to save them!

  • In October of 2006, I began a period of training in a children's home outside of Mexico City. I taught Bible, English, piano, and computer to children ages 6-17. I am very thankful for my time in the orphanage. Though not always easy, it was a great experience and something God used to help me grow. After my time of training in the children's home, I spent 5 weeks with Pastor Sergio Escobar and his family in the town of Atlacomulco. Pastor Escobar and his church were a great help to me! During this time, I taught Sunday School and gave piano lessons. I also worked with Pastor Escobar and several others to find out the legal aspect of running a children's home. I'm very grateful for this time of training.

  • In 1999, I started a Spanish Ministry for Children at my church in Georgia. The area around our church was beginning to have a very large Spanish population, and the need to reach the Hispanic people was great. Our first class, we had 2 children. Today, we average 50-60 children every week. We are now divided into two classes- one for children through fifth grade, the other for teenagers. We have been blessed to work with some great kids in this ministry and we look forward to seeing what God will do in the lives of these young people.

  • The Lord has blessed me with a great Spanish tutor- Mrs. Josefina Garcia of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Mrs. Garcia has been a great help to me by giving me Spanish lessons every week. She has also taught me many things about Mexican food and culture. The Garcia's are great friends to our family and have been an encouragement to me throughout the years. Their three children attended the Spanish ministry at our church for 9 years before they moved out of state.

  • I graduated from home-school in 2001. At this time, I was already taking classes at Atlanta Baptist College. In 2002, I earned an Associate's Degree of Theology. On May 7, 2004 I graduated from ABC with a Bachelor's Degree of Theology with Proficiencies in Missions and Music.

  • Amy and family at graduation
  • I was privileged to study music and piano for 11 years under several great teachers. My piano instructor for many years was Mrs. Vanessa McBrayer. During my last year of college, I studied under pianist and composer Mr. Misha V. Stefanuk at the Johnson Ferry Conservatory in Atlanta. I played for several soloists and groups at my home church for many years. I also play for my new church in Mexico and have approximately 20 students from different churches in the Saltillo area. I hope to use my piano/music education to assist and train others in churches and Bible colleges throughout Saltillo.

  • After joining Macedonia World Baptist Missions, Inc. I began a time of fund-raising known as deputation. During this time, I traveled to different churches around the United States and shared the burden that God has laid on my heart for the country of Mexico. I was blessed to be able to present a power-point presentation about the work in Mexico with many people (churches and schools). I was able to meet many wonderful people and gain much prayer support for the work in Saltillo. After gaining the monthly financial support I needed, I was able to move to Mexico! I moved to the Saltillo area in May 2007. I attend Faith Baptist Church, a Spanish-speaking church started by former BIMI missionaries Mark and Cindy Ernst. I am involved in the music ministry, teach kids classes, give piano and English lessons each week, hold ladies Bible studies, street clubs, street evangelism, humanitarian aid and more. I recently obtained the necessary paperwork to start "Por Siempre Amor y Esperanza" - a non-profit organization which focuses on the spiritual and physical need of the people of Saltillo, specializing in needs of children. It is under this organization that I will be starting a children's home. We already have the house for the children's home and will be working with social services to open the home in early 2012.

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

I love spending time with my family and friends! I have 3 beautiful nieces named Lauren, Addie and Ella. I really enjoying being an aunt! The girls bring so much joy to my life. One of my favorite hobbies is playing the piano and listening to music. I also enjoy reading, softball, and working on my scrapbooks. I love to write children's stories and am currently working on a Christian book about a young Mexican immigrant searching for happiness. I love going to the lake with my family in the summer. I really love to cook- I always enjoy trying new things! I also enjoy curling up on the sofa and watching a good movie- I love all the old classic films. I enjoy art, decorating, and design. My clothes are always a reflection of my varied (and colorful!) tastes! :) I enjoying sewing my own clothes also but am not very good at it yet! I also like to collect military memorabilia- almost every patriotic holiday in the past, I put out a display at my home church with part of my collection. One of my favorite things to do before I moved to Mexico was volunteer with my mother at the USO in the Atlanta airport. We enjoyed being able to spend time with the soldiers and trying to encourage them as they bravely defend and serve our country. Every day, the USO has approximately 600 soldiers coming in from Iraq and heading back to Iraq. The USO provides free food, flight/lodging assistance, care packages, and entertainment to all military personnel and their families traveling through the airport. The Lord also gave me many opportunities to speak with soldiers about His love and salvation. In the summer of 2006, I was privileged to see one young soldier accept Christ a few minutes before boarding the plane that took him back to Iraq. I have a big burden for our military, and I hope you are all praying for our them and their families!
